Two shows last night…Nashville Star and The Bachelorette. Spoilers follow, so don’t read if you haven’t watched!
First of all, let’s talk about Nashville Star. I don’t think the talent on this show is anywhere near the caliber of American Idol, but there definitely is some talent here. And some of that talent went home last night. My two favorite acts on this show are Melissa Lawson and Pearl Heart. Melissa got the most votes last night and rightfully so. Pearl Heart got sent home and that was a travesty. They got sent home over the whiny bratty eye-rolling teenaged duo of Laura & Sophie? Ridiculous. Thank goodness Jeffrey Steele recognizes talent and will do what he can to help them continue their journey now that they’re off the show. As for the bratty duo? Did you catch one of them rolling her eyes when Jewel said they were the ones who should be in the bottom 3? It’s obvious they do not have the maturity and class to be in this competition and they need to go home. They are totally out-classed and out-behaved. The only one who is close to being as bratty is Shawn Mayer. And she needs to go home after they do. I’m still disgusted to tell you the truth.
Now for The Bachelorette. I hardly ever watch this show. In fact, I think I’ve only watched it once before and that was when Meredith was the Bachelorette. I never watch The Bachelor because I can’t stand seeing a bunch of catty women chasing after a smarmy guy. And tonight’s finale was exactly the reason I hate this show so much. Someone (and often a very nice someone) always gets hurt. Yes, I know they “know” what they are getting into when they sign on, but still…it’s painfully uncomfortable to watch people break up on television. And they never choose the safe and secure one. I did like Jesse. But I think I would have chosen Jason. But then again, who knows? I hope she and Jesse do live happily ever after. It would only be the second time that’s happened - Trista Rehn being the first. I have a feeling they might be the second, considering they’ve actually set a wedding date. But, my heart was really breaking for sweet stable Jason. He seems like a genuinely nice guy and he didn’t deserve to be hurt. But that’s the show. In the end, only one guy gets the girl. And I hope Jason finds a wonderful girl to marry and be a mom to his adorable little boy. By the same token, being a parent, I would NEVER have gone on a show like that, spent a month (or however long) away from my kid, and subjected my child to that whole situation. I just wouldn’t. The positive, I guess, is that he seems to have figured out how to love again, and that’s a good thing. I hope he finds someone who loves both of them as much as they love her. And I hope he does NOT become the next Bachelor. That would lower my opinion of him a few notches. As for DeAnna and Jesse? Jesse was my second choice, but I still think he seems like a great guy and I wish them every happiness. It would be nice to see this show actually work for a change. Time will tell.
