Summer Reality Roundup

Hell’s Kitchen: (Fox)
This season has shown a (sometimes) kinder, gentler version of Gordon Ramsay. But only sometimes. He yells and cusses just as much as he always has, if not more. The bleeper and the mouth-smear-outter must get overtime.

Usually the contestants are just so annoying, it’s hard to choose anyone to win, but there is one chef this season that you gotta love: Julia, the Waffle House cook. It’s doubtful that she’ll win, but Gordon seems to have taken her under his wing a bit, and even though she doesn’t have the training or the gourmet food chops the others do, girlfriend can cook. So, if nothing else, I hope Gordon offers to train her or send her to culinary school. She’s definitely got the raw talent.

As for who is going to win? It’s most likely down to Jen or Rock. We shall see.

America’s Got Talent: (NBC)
Well, America might have talent, but the stupid judges don’t have any idea what talent really is. I mean, come on, Boy Shakira and the Bollywood dancer made it to the top 20? Give me a break. There’s a reason the other reality shows only have ONE Brit on the judging panel, and the most famous one of them actually knows talent when he sees it. I doubt they’ll go very far, because really, those two are potentially worth a million dollars? Uh, no.

The Singing Bee (NBC) vs. Don’t Forget the Lyrics (Fox):
Well, one thing is for sure, you should not play these games if you are not a karaoke-er, because while I can identify songs by their lyrics really well, it’s pretty hard to remember the EXACT lyrics that come next.

So far, I prefer The Singing Bee. It moves faster, and therefore is much less boring. Don’t Forget the Lyrics is trying too hard to be like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and failing. Wayne Brady is cool, but the first contestant’s voice nearly made my ears bleed. Make it stop!!!

I doubt I’d ever choose to watch those shows over another show, though!

Pirate Master: (CBS)
Well, what can I say? Don’t like it. Think it’s stupid. I’ll probably watch to the end, though, because 1) there’s not a lot of other stuff to watch and 2) I want to see which loser ends up winning (maybe Louie - I like Louie).

On the Lot: (Fox)
This show had so much potential. Sooooo much. But, alas, formatting and the WORST host in reality television tanked it. It never really had a chance. But I am pulling for Zack to win. And Gary Marshall has replaced Bruno Tognoli of Dancing with the Stars as the looniest judge in reality television.

Top Chef: (Bravo)
Is there actually anyone likable this season? If so, I’ve yet to find them. The girls are all bland and forgettable. The boys are either obnoxious or arrogant or both. The tall guy I kinda like, though.

The Next Food Network Star: (Food Network)
My favorite food reality show - I think because it’s not just about the cooking, it’s also about the ability to be a television personality. And deep inside of me, there’s always been a television chef waiting to come out. It’ll NEVER happen, but still, it’s fun to watch other people going through the process. For the record? Jag drove me insane, Rory is not bad, but Amy is my favorite.

There. Did I cover them all? Oh I forgot American Inventor (ABC) but it’s so much of a yawner still that I’ll leave it for now.
