Tonight, as usual, one girl and one guy goes home. Who will it be? And will Cat’s dress attack her before we find out?
The opening group number was choreographed by Mia Michaels and it was well and truly bizarre. Kind of like a Goth Circus with a bit of Goth Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz (played by Comfort) thrown in for good measure. That doesn’t mean I didn’t like it. It just means it was bizarre.
Time for the results…
Chelsea and Thayne are…in the bottom 3.
Katee and Joshua are…safe!
Chelsie and Mark are…safe!
Kherington and Twitch are…safe!
Courtney and Gev are…safe!
Comfort and Chris are…in the bottom 3.
Kourtni and Matt are…in the bottom 3.
Jessica and Will are…safe!
Honestly, I think the choreographers let two of the couples down. I think the choreography on the Quickstep was fine, they just didn’t do it well.
So, the bottom 3 girls are: Chelsea T, Comfort and Kourtni L.
I think it will be Comfort, but it could very well be Kourtni if she doesn’t bring it in her solo.
The bottom 3 boys are: Thayne, Chris and Matt.
I’m pretty sure it will be Chris, but it could possibly be Matt if Chris blows him away on the solo.
Next we have a awesome performance from Quest featuring former contestants Ryan, Dominic and Hok.
Solo time:
Chelsea T dances to A Song for You by Donny Hathaway.
Thayne dances to Always by Bon Jovi.
Comfort dances to Just Fine by Mary J. Blige.
Chris dances to After Tonight by Justin Nozuka.
Kourtni L dances to Fire Door (live) by Ani DiFranco.
Matt dances to I’m Yours by Jason Mraz.
The judges deliberate about whom to send home while our hometown girl Jordin Sparks performs.
Now for the bad news…
Comfort and Kourtni are…safe!
Chelsea is going home. I’m not really surprised, because I think it could have been any one of them, but I thought she might squeak out another week because of the first week’s performance.
Matt is…safe!
Thayne is…safe!
Chris is…going home. No surprise at all on this one.
So, Thayne will be dancing with Comfort next week. Not sure how that pairing will work, but we’ll see!
I’m sure the choreographers don’t read my blog, but if they happen to, I have something to say to them. Don’t get all avant garde way out there crazy with the choreography. A little of that goes a long way and the majority of people who watch this show are probably not dancers or don’t know a lot about dance. Make the routines accessible to people. Make them enjoyable and fun and interesting without being too far on the fringe, because when you do that you do the dancers, who are just trying to hang in there week to week and get people to vote for them, a huge disservice. Two of the couples in the bottom 3 tonight (I’m specifically pointing at Chris and Comfort and Matt and Kourtni here) I think were there specifically because the routines were just too out there for the voters. Save your experimentation and craziness for the group routines. Think of the dancers and think of the demographics of the viewers when you choreograph. Stop trying to show how “creative” you are and what great choreographers you are and choreograph routines that will draw people in - not turn them off. /rant over
