Here we go again. Tonight it’s the top 9 couples. I love this show!
Tonight’s judges are Mia Michaels, Mary Murphy (the M&Ms) and Nigel Lythgoe.
Chelsea T and Thayne
Jazz choreographed by Mandy Moore
Untouched: The Veronicas
I really like them and I usually really like Mandy Moore, but this was just kind of bizarre all the way from the costumes to the choreography. I don’t think it was all that memorable and it felt kind of choppy and detached. Just a weird vibe for me. Mia said it was a great concept and it wasn’t executed at all. Mary said it didn’t work for her and there wasn’t enough impact. Nigel didn’t think it was real.
Chelsie H and Mark
Argentine Tango choreographed Alex DaSilva
Mi Confesion: Gotan Project
I love the Argentine Tango and I think Mark’s intensity was perfect for this dance. I also like how the choreographer incorporated some of his quirkiness into the movement. Overall I think this was very well-danced, very intense and spicy and great choreography, but his carriage was just a tad off at times for me. I do really love them as a couple, though. Mia said she is in love with them and that they are a perfect and odd couple. Mary loved everything about it. Nigel would have like to have seen a little more fire from Chelsie.
Jessica and Will
Hip-hop choreographed by Cecily and Olisa
Whatever U Like: Nicole Scherzinger
I really liked this. It wasn’t perfectly in sync. They probably didn’t hit everything as hard as they could have. But they looked like they were having fun and it was interesting choreography, so it was enjoyable for me. Mia said the choreography was ridiculous but that Jessica was a little cheerleader like and Will is a genius. Mary said Jessica wasn’t quite there - not hard-hitting enough, but Will is a dancing machine. Nigel said Jessica did a really good job and Will will be here at the end.
Kourtni L and Matt
Foxtrot choreographed by Jean-Marc Genereux
A Foggy Day (In London Town): Michael Buble
Loved the final pose. Kourtni is such a special dancer. She is a just a joy to watch - like bubbles floating all over the stage. Matt is very stiff in comparison. I do think that he partnered her well and he was there for her, but I don’t enjoy watching him dance as much as I do her. Mia said it was old Hollywood elegance and she thinks Matt is fantastic. Mary loved the choreography but the rest was a mixed bag and she was slightly disappointed. Nigel said Matt is strong but his arms are a bit soft, but he thoroughly enjoyed the dance.
Courtney G and Gev
Contemporary choreographed by Mandy Moore
Lost: Anouk
Wow - just beautiful. Some amazing lifts and a beautiful connection between them. Very lovely and the choreography was amazing. Mia wanted more organic purity from Courtney and she was so proud of Gev. Mary loved it and game them the patented Mary scream. Nigel thinks they are a beautifully well-balanced couple but he didn’t believe the emotion.
Katee and Joshua
Broadway choreographed by Tyce DiOrio
All for the Best: Godspell (2001 Revival Broadway Cast)
A lot of fun, some neat tricks and they danced it beautifully. I really like them together and I love Joshua. Nigel loved it and called it ENTERTAINMENT! Mary said it was satisfaction guaranteed. Mia said it was amazing and that they are taking what is being thrown at them to another level.
Susie and Marquis
Salsa choreographed by Alex DaSilva
Aguanile: Willie Colon & Hester Lavee
Hot and spicy and not an easy routine at all. Some fantastic tricks. This is Susie’s specialty and it showed to a point - I couldn’t take my eyes off of her to look at Marquis, but the lifts were good. But it wasn’t as special as I would have liked it to be. Mia wasn’t crazy about the performance and that Marquis overexaggerated his body and she expected more from Susie. Mary said it wasn’t quite working for her and that she wanted to see fire from Susie. Nigel said the hips weren’t doing enough.
Kherington and Twitch
Viennese Waltz choreographed by Jean-Marc Genereux
A New Day Has Come: Celine Dion
I’m teary-eyed. So beautiful. So emotional. I’m sure Twitch’s carriage was probably not perfect, but I didn’t care. This was just gorgeous. Such a beautiful connection. They are my absolute favorite couple this season. Mia loved the essence of it but didn’t like Kherington smiling the whole time. Mary loved it and said Twitch partnered like a real man. Nigel said it was a beautiful routine and they breathed together and felt the music together.
Comfort and Chris
Krump choreographed by Lil’C
Come and Get Me: Timbaland featuring 50 Cent & Tony Yayo
I’ve really not been a big fan of the Krump routines that have been done on the show in past seasons, but this is the best one I’ve seen. She killed it and he held his own. My husband said he looked like a white boy and didn’t have the aggressive passion. Mia said Chris worked really hard this week and that he pulled it off. Mary thought Comfort could have hit it a little harder and that Chris was respectable. Nigel said his granny is more gangsta than Chris and that it was weak.
My ranking:
Kherington and Twitch
Katee and Joshua
Chelsie H and Mark
Courtney G and Gev
Jessica and Will
Comfort and Chris
Susie and Marquis
Kourtni L and Matt
Chelsea T and Thayne
