New Fall Shows

Now that all the new shows have finally premiered, I thought I’d talk about what I like and don’t like (of the ones I’ve watched - I’m only one person after all - even if I do have two dvrs…lol!).

Please Stay!

The Big Bang Theory: Maybe it’s because I’ve loved a lot of nerds (platonically!), but I really love this show. Johnny Galecki’s Leonard is sweetly sincere and I hope he gets the girl (Katie Cuoco) one day. His roommate Sheldon is annoying and OCD, but that just makes Leonard even more sympathetic. And on top of that? It’s funny.

Bionic Woman: This ain’t Lindsay Wagner’s Jamie Sommers. But it’s good. A lot of action, a lot of super chicks.

Kitchen Nightmares: I think I might watch a show about watching paint dry if Gordon Ramsey was in it. The only thing I don’t get is why all these people get so mad at him when he wants to change things to make the restaurants better. Didn’t they ask for him to come in and help?

Life is Wild: I actually really like this show and I’m saddened to hear that its ratings are not all that great. I hope it’s given a chance to build a following because I think it definitely has potential. And the supporting animals are a beauty to behold.

Moonlight: What has tv been lacking lately? A good cheesy vampire detective show. Well, maybe not, but the first episode was good enough to get me to tune in again and every episode has gotten better and better. I care about Mick and Beth and the show’s vampire mythology is fascinating. CBS has ordered more shows, so here’s hoping they’re going to give it a chance to find its niche.

The Next Great American Band: It’s kind of hard for me to judge this show having only seen one episode, but the first epi had some pretty darn good bands in it that I’m looking forward to seeing again. Whether or not it stays on my happy list all depends on what happens when the real competition starts, but I’m definitely willing to give it a shot.

Private Practice: I wasn’t sure I was going to like this show, but the cases are interesting and the acting is good. I do miss Addison on Grey’s Anatomy, though.

Pushing Daisies: How could you go wrong with Jim Dale as your narrator and Kristin Chenoweth in the cast? Well, you can’t. And although from what I’ve read, this is kind of a love it or hate it type of show, I’m firmly in the love it camp. More daisies please!

Samantha Who?: I love the premise of this show - a horrible person wakes up with amnesia and has the chance to change her life for the better. Cristina Applegate is terrific in this and it’s good to see her in something that truly lets her show off her acting chops. And getting the plum spot after Dancing with the Stars doesn’t hurt either.

Comme Ci Comme Ca

Back to You: I’d really love to like this more than I do. It’s got Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton after all, but it’s just not that funny. I mean, it’s okay funny, but it’s not Frasier or Cheers or even Everybody Loves Raymond. And that’s a shame. I am still watching it, though. I keep hoping it will get better.

Journeyman: I’m still not sure I like this show. Mike does, however, so it’s still on the DVR. I wouldn’t be sad if it got cancelled to be honest. And the lead actor just does nothing for me whatsoever.

Women’s Murder Club: It’s not off my dvr yet, but it might not be there for long. Give me a reason to care about the characters or it’s gone. And also? Angie Harmon is wearing way too much makeup. Just saying.

Already Off My DVR

Big Shots: The first episode was enough to make me want to keep watching it. Even the second episode was pretty decent, but I just haven’t gotten invested in the characters enough to want to keep putting the time in to watch the show. So it’s gone.

Dirty Sexy Money: The first episode wasn’t bad, but the next episodes haven’t made me care one bit about the Darlings. They’re just a bunch of spoiled rich folk who are all pretty unsympathetic characters. In order to get me to care, I need to have a reason to like them. And there isn’t one, so adios.

Already Off the Schedule

Nashville: Normally I’ll give a tv show two views before I decide to permanently delete it from my viewing list, but this one only took one. Apparently a lot of people agreed. Not going to waste any more words on it.

Viva Laughlin: I wanted to like this. I love Hugh Jackman. And I love musicals. But trust me when I say, it’s not the musical that made this show stink. It’s just not a good show. The story is crap. The acting is (mostly) crap (not Hugh’s though!). And the fact that they had them singing along with the original recording artists instead of just singing by themselves drove me absolutely insane. That was just stupid. I mean, if you’re going to do a “musical”, then let the actors sing (especially when you have a Tony-award winning actor in your cast). Either way, CBS has pulled it from the schedule after just two episodes. So I guess you could say Muerte Laughlin. Or something like that.

So what about you? Which new shows are on your must see list? And which ones are on your “why on earth did they ever make this show” list?
