This week the stars take on not one, but two dances - a Latin solo piece and a Swing group number. Should be interesting.
Joey and Kym
Samba
The judges thought Joey wasn’t “masculine” enough last week. I thought he was, but what do I know? So we have to get a masculine Samba. And who does she bring in to coach him? Why Jerry Springer of course. This was one of my favorite Sambas ever - lots of fun.
Judges scores: 9 + 9 + 9 =27
My score: 9
Heather and Jonathan
Paso Doble
They danced in the air and in England because Heather had to be in England for something. And by in the air, I mean in the aisles of the airplane. This was a good paso doble. Not great, not spectacular, but good.
Judges scores: 7 + 8 + 8 = 23
My score: 7
John and Edyta
Mambo
I swear one day Edyta is going to have a wardrobe malfunction because goodness! This was not a spectacular dance and John is not a spectacular dancer, but he has so much fun and you can tell, and he tries and he sells it. So even though they’re probably going to be eliminated in the next couple of weeks, I still love watching them and I’ll enjoy it as long as they are still in the competition.
Judges scores: 7 + 6 + 6 = 19
My score: 6
Laila and Maksim
Cha-cha
The best thing about Laila is her sassy attitude. And her confidence. And the fact that she has a real woman’s body and not some skinny little bag of bones body. Oh I could go on and on. This was a great cha-cha - full of sass and spice.
Judges scores: 9 + 9 + 10 = 28
My score: 10
Billy Ray and Karina
Jive
Well it’s nice to see Billy Ray doing some footwork rather than just standing there while Karina dances around him. So I’ll definitely have to give him credit for that. This was probably my favorite dance they’ve done. Still not spectacular, but maybe the Jive is Billy Ray’s thing.
Judges scores: 7 + 7 + 7 = 21
My score: 7
Apolo and Julianne
Rumba
Uh oh. Pseudo siblings Apolo and Julianne have to be sexy and romantic. And you know what? They pulled it off.
Judges scores: 9 + 9 + 10 = 28
My score: 10
Ian and Cheryl
Paso Doble
Of course, the year that Drew Lachey partnered with Cheryl, the paso doble was the watermark dance that really set them apart from the rest of the competitors. But, as much as Ian is a good dancer, he is not Drew. And so even though this was a great dance, it’s still not as good as some of the others.
Judges scores: 8 + 8 + 8 = 24
My score: 8
Next up, the Group Swing choreographed by Christian Perry. There will be no scoring from the judges, so the rules are out the window and all bets are off.
Now that was a heckuva LOT of fun. I could watch that over and over. Especially that part where Laila lifted Apolo. lol!
