Is there joy in Mudville? Not for Maurice. But Cody (and Julianne!), Warren, Lance and Brooke are all still in the hunt for the finals. It’s the semi-finals folks. Hold on to your dancing shoes. Here we go. And I bet it’s gonna be a bumpy ride!
Brooke Burke and Derek Hough
Dance: Jive
Wardrobe: Brooke’s was small and Derek’s was not. Loved his suit. Her dress not so much.
Music: Great music
Performance: I think she really tried the sell the dance tonight and gave it extra oomph on the performance side. Techniquewise it seemed okay until near the end when it seemed to fall apart a little bit, but sometimes it’s hard to tell that for sure on television. Still, a high energy dance and a lot of fun.
Judges: Len said it was a disaster and there were so many mistakes. Bruno said the technique went down the toilet. Carrie Ann said they had a blatant illegal lift and there are no lifts this round. Judges not happy. Brooke and Derek look bummed.
Judges scores: 7 + 7 + 7 = 21 (ouch)
My score: 7
Cody Linley and Julianne Hough
Dance: Paso Doble
Wardrobe: Bizarre
Music: Bizarre, awful, horrific, what more can I say?
Performance: Aside from the horrible costumes and the horrible music, I think Julianne did the best she could with what she was given. Cody pulled off the mean and angry pretty well. Not really my cup of tea, but that wasn’t their fault as much as the costumes and horrible music.
Judges: Bruno said it was different and the lines were non-existent and timing poor. Carrie Ann said it was a ten for determination and she still sees tension. Len said it wasn’t good, that it was stiff and wooden and lacked dance quality. Apparently the judges are cranky tonight.
Judges scores: 8 + 7 + 7 = 22
My score: 7
Warren Sapp and Kym Johnson
Dance: Mambo
Wardrobe: Not bad
Music: Okayish
Performance: Entertaining it was, but there was no energy and it felt like they were slogging through the mud. And I saw some mistakes in this dance as well. What is up with everyone this week?
Judges: Carrie Ann thought it needed more content and it was a little lackluster. Len said he comes out and shows great personality. Bruno said he has a supersize sense of fun that he gets away with murder.
Judges scores: 8 + 8 + 8 = 24
My score: 8
Lance Bass and Lacey Schwimmer
Dance: Mambo
Wardrobe: Loved the colors, love the dress. Great outfits.
Music: Cool music
Performance: Awesome. The best dance of the night so far. And this dance makes me think Lance will go to the finals and Cody will go home. Still another dance to come, but they did a fabulous job. The choreography was amazing, the performance was spot on and it was just a joy to watch.
Judges: Len said it was the best dance so far. Bruno said this was semifinal material - full of content with quirky little details. Carrie Ann said it was a showstopper, dynamic and full of color. Judges were happy finally!
Judges scores: 10 + 9 + 9 = 28
My score: 10
It’s DanceMaster night! Len gives the stars their master class. I love this part! Lance’s problem is that he’s pigeon-toed. And Len tells him to turn his thigh out. Fixed! Cody needs better hip action. Roll the hip back! Lose the red dot! Brooke needs work on her leg action. Get them straighter! Warren needs work on his feet. Keep the feet locked and point the toes.
Before we get to the Salsas and the Jitterbugs, we get to see each dance performed by the experts. (And I don’t mean the pros.) This should be good! First up, the World Salsa Champions.
Brooke Burke and Derek Hough
Dance: Salsa
Wardrobe: Awesome
Music: Great
Performance: Loved this performance. Loved the choreography. Loved the whole thing. So there.
Judges: Bruno said welcome back into the competition. Carrie Ann said a champion rises above it and comes right back. Len said work to her strengths - crisp, clear, great technique.
Judges scores: 9 + 10 + 9 = 28
My score: 10
Cody Linley and Julianne Hough
Dance: Salsa
Wardrobe: Cute
Music: Good music for this dance thank goodness
Performance: I thought this was a high energy, fun performance with cute choreography. The lifts were a little scary, though, but they got through them. Not as good as Brooke and Derek, but a nice performance.
Judges: Carrie Ann said it was a lot of fun but his musicality was a little lacking. Len thought he had good musicality and got his hips working. Bruno said he danced like a cheeky devil.
Judges scores: 8 + 8 + 8 = 24
My score: 9
The Jitterbug performed by former National Swing Champions. That was hawt.
Warren Sapp and Kym Johnson
Dance: Jitterbug
Wardrobe: Kym’s dress was really quite interesting.
Music: Good song. Not a bad performance. Horrible for this dance, though.
Performance: Did that feel like the Jitterbug to you? Because it sure didn’t feel like the Jitterbug to me. Fun dance, though.
Judges: Len said he is a joyful person to watch and he sells it. Bruno said his feet were all over the place. Carrie Ann loved it.
Judges scores: 9 + 8 + 8 = 25
My score: 8
Lance Bass and Lacey Schwimmer
Dance: Jitterbug
Wardrobe: Appropriate
Music: Nice and high energy
Performance: Very high energy. Very jitterbug. Very entertaining. Very well done with fun choreography again. They’ve finally come into their own! And Lance lost his shoe halfway in and just kept going! Great job.
Judges: Bruno said it was brilliant and a real joy. Carrie Ann said it was pitched perfectly and it was magic. Len said he danced two fabulous dances. They definitely were the couple of the night.
Judges scores: 10 + 9 + 10 = 29
My score: 10
Judges Ranking
Lance and Lacey: 28 + 29 = 57
Brooke and Derek: 21 + 28 = 49
Warren and Kym: 24 + 25 = 49
Cody and Julianne: 22 + 24 = 46
My Ranking
Lance and Lacey: 10 + 10 = 20
Brooke and Derek: 7 + 10 = 17
Warren and Kym: 8 + 8 = 16
Cody and Julianne: 7 + 9 = 16
Well, I think that Lance and Lacey earned their way into the finals tonight. I also think that Brooke and Derek have earned their way in over the course of the season. So, it comes down to Warren and Cody. It’s probably Cody’s time to go, but I’d be okay if it was Warren that left. It’ll be a shame if either Lance or Brooke doesn’t make it, though!
