Dancing with the Stars 7 Week 1 Part 1

Dancing with the Stars is back! But more importantly, so is Maks!

Cody Linley and Julianne Hough

Dance:  Cha-Cha
Wardrobe:  Not bad
Music:  Not horrible

Performance:  I think they did a respectable job for the first week out.  He looked a little stiff at times, but I think he definitely has some potential, and he should also have the fan base.

Judges:  Len said he had high energy and good job.  Bruno said he has to focus on the feet.  Carrie Anne said she is looking forward to the next dance.

Judges scores:  6 + 6 + 6 = 18

My score:  7

Rocco DiSpirito and Karina Smirnoff

Dance:  Foxtrot
Wardrobe:  I really loved her dress and Rocco looks mighty fine in a tux.
Music:  Awesome music

Performance:  Well, it wasn’t horrible.  I think he actually did a decent job.  He’s a little tentative and stiff, but he did look like he was having fun at least!

Judges:  Bruno said it was a Foxtrot on the brink of chaos.  Carrie Anne thought it was cute.  Len said Rocco dances like Len cooks.  (Which is apparently not all that well?)

Judges scores:  5 + 4 + 5 = 14

My score:  5

Toni Braxton and Alec Mazo

Dance:  Cha-cha
Wardrobe:  hot!
Music:  awesome!  (one of my favorite songs - Smooth)

Performance:  I think Toni really knows how to work a crowd and I think she really had a good time and put on a good show.  Very enjoyable.

Judges:  Carrie Anne thought it was fantastic.  Len said there was a good mix of basic steps and clever choreography.  Bruno said she was slinky, sultry and sexy.

Judges scores:  7 + 7 + 8 = 22
My score:
8

Maurice Greene and Cheryl Burke

Dance:  Foxtrot
Wardrobe:  interesting
Music:  A funky foxtrot?  Um, no.

Performance:  It felt really slow and I’m not sure if that was the choreography or the limitations of Maurice.  And I just couldn’t really get into the whole “funky foxtrot” kind of thing.  But he looked like he was having a great time.

Judges:  Len said parts that were wild, parts that were wacky and parts that were wonderful.  Bruno said he has a great presence on stage.  Carrie Anne said it felt stiff and slow in hold.

Judges scores:  6 + 6 + 6 = 18
My score:
6

Brooke Burke and Derek Hough

Dance:  Cha-cha
Wardrobe:  She looked pretty hot.
Music:  loved the music

Performance:  I thought she looked very hot and very sexy and she and Derek had a good connection and the dancing was not too bad either.

Judges:  Carrie Anne said she had great energy and great strength.  Bruno complimented her hip action.  Len said it was the best dance so far.

Judges scores:  7 + 8 + 8 = 23

My score:  8

Ted McGinley and Inna Brayer

Dance:  Foxtrot
Wardrobe:  very nice
Music:  sappy but it worked

Performance:  Ted looks totally out of his element physically, but he’s such a great actor that if you just watch his face you’d think he was one of the best dancers out there.  Stiff, but he committed.

Judges:  Bruno said at moments he had the elegance of Cary Grant and then he turned into Steve Carell.  Len said he had style and elegance.  Carrie Anne said she could tell he was nervous.

Judges scores:  6 + 6 + 6 = 18

My score:  5

Lance Bass and Lacey Schwimmer

Dance:  Cha-cha
Wardrobe:  Different
Music:  It was okay

Performance:  Lacey is such a high powered dancer that it’s hard to keep your eyes off of her and I had to keep reminding myself to watch Lance.  Singers tend to be very musical dancers because they are musical after all, and Lance is no exception.  I wasn’t sure from the rehearsal footage how good he was going to be, but he did a very good job.

Judges:  Len said it was young and modern and he is old and traditional.  Carrie Anne thought it was hot, hot, hot!  Bruno said it was edgy and fun.

Judges scores:  8 + 6 + 8 = 22

My score:  8

Cloris Leachman and Corky Ballas

Dance:  Foxtrot
Wardrobe:  Appropriate
Music:  lovely
Performance:  Well, I can’t say it was as good as some of the younger contestants, but by gosh for an 82 year old woman to be out there doing that is simply awesome.  She kept a smile on her face even when there was a little boo boo and she sold it.  Very sweet.

Judges:  Bruno called her battleship Geriatric.  Len thought she acted the dance beautifully. Carrie Anne thought she was nothing but grace on the dance floor.

Judges scores:  6 + 5 + 5 = 16

My score:  5

Jeffrey Ross and Edyta Sliwinska

Dance:  Cha-cha
Wardrobe:  Typical Edyta
Music:  Good

Performance:  Well, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be, but it wasn’t good either.

Judges:  Carrie Anne said the flirting was good but the musicality was off.  Bruno said nothing really worked.  Len said everyone is a winner because of the commitment they made.  But he didn’t say anything about the dancing, which says a lot.

Judges scores:  4 + 4 + 4 = 12

My score:  4

Kim Kardashian and Mark Ballas

Dance:  Foxtrot
Wardrobe:  She looked great but I didn’t care too much for his pink jacket.
Music:  Meh

Performance:  It didn’t seem to have a lot of content, and she looked a little bit wobbly here and there, but overall, it was a respectable performance for the first week.

Judges:  Len said it was clean and had nice musicality but there was no chemistry between them.  Bruno said she needs to make her treasure trove more available because he didn’t connect with her while she was dancing.  Yes, he really said that.  Carrie Anne said she moves very well.

Judges scores:  6 + 7 + 6 = 19

My score:  6

Susan Lucci and Tony Dovolani

Dance:  Cha-cha
Wardrobe:  She looks great!
Music:  Meh again.

Performance:  I think they did a good job, and her hips and legs look pretty good, but she seems a little stiff in her upper body.

Judges:  Bruno looks like a lady but it was too careful and that she lost her footing here and there.  Carrie Anne thought she looked a bit frail.  Len said it was neat and precise and a bit too careful.

Judges scores:  5 + 5 + 5 = 15

My score:  6

Misty May-Treanor and Maks Chmerkovskiy

Dance:  Foxtrot
Wardrobe:  She looked lovely and Maks looked yummy.  So glad he’s back!
Music:  Good music

Performance:  She needs a little more softness to her, but I think that will come.  I thought considering the fact that she’s not used to being an “entertainer” really, she did a really good job out there.  I hope she sticks around for a good long time so I can enjoy my Maks eye candy!

Judges:  Carrie Anne said she loves her intensity.  Len thought it had an elegance and her arms were really nice.  Bruno said she is truly glowing on the dance floor.

Judges scores:  6 + 8 + 7 = 21

My score:  7

Warren Sapp and Kym Johnson

Dance:  Cha-cha
Wardrobe:  Classy
Music:  Good

Performance:  Football players just always seem to make great ballroom dancers.  Whatever he lacked in technique, he totally made up for in enthusiasm and entertainment.  He was having a great time and I had a great time watching him.

Judges:  Len said he is a great big bundle of joy.  Carrie Anne said he brought joy to the dance floor.  Bruno said big boys can dance and that he was light on his feet.

Judges scores:  7 + 7 + 7 = 21

My score:  8

Tomorrow night the couples will dance another dance and someone will be eliminated and I think it will be Jeffrey or Rocco, which is too bad for Edyta or Karina!
