We’re down to the final 4. It’s getting crazy. Two dances. Two boys, two girls. It’s anyone’s ballroom game.
Ballroom Round
Jason Taylor and Edyta Sliwinska
Dance: Foxtrot
Music: Love the music, maybe not so much the performance of it. One of my favorite Rodgers and Hammerstein songs.
Wardrobe: Very classy and pretty.
Performance: I thought it was a very smooth performance. Maybe a little slower than I want to see, but Jason really glides as Len said. And I thought the choreography was really inventive and interesting.
Judges: Len said he loved the footwork and the whole thing was great. Bruno loved it. Carrie Ann says he had more content and charisma.
Judges Scores: 9 + 10 + 9 = 28
My Score: 9
Marissa Jaret Winokur and Tony Dovolani
Dance: Quickstep
Music: Interesting
Wardrobe: Beautiful beautiful dress - her best costume ever.
Performance: I thought there was some really great footwork in the dance, but there was just something that was lacking - maybe speed, maybe flow - just a little something.
Judges: Bruno said she missed a step. Carrie Ann said she has turned into the unlikely contender. Len said there was a lack of body content, but he thought they did a great job.
Judges Scores: 9 + 9 + 8 = 26
My Score: 8
Cristian de la Fuente and Cheryl Burke
Dance: Viennese Waltz
Music: Interesting
Wardrobe: Cheryl was very shiny.
Performance: I think Cheryl deserves an award for the choreography she is doing to compensate for Cristian’s injury. Some beautiful spins.
Judges: Carrie Ann said the movement was great, nice rotation. Len said better mix of steps, better marks. Bruno said they play off each other beautifully and it had a wow factor.
Judges Scores: 9 + 9 + 9 = 27
My Score: 9
Kristi Yamaguchi and Mark Ballas
Dance: Tango
Music: Good music
Wardrobe: Kristi looked amazing.
Performance: LOVED this performance. The choreography was inventive. The footwork was great. The lines and sharpness was awesome.
Judges: Len said it had great movement and hold and posture, but it was a little bit hectic. Bruno said they squeezed every single drop of glamour, passion, and sex appeal out of it. Carrie Ann said she was queen of the dance floor. (And almost had a wardrobe malfunction when she jumped out of her chair.)
Judges Scores: 10 + 9 + 10 = 29
My Score: 10
Latin Round:
And it’s Len’s Masterclass week. I love this part!!
Jason and Edyta
Dance: Paso Doble
Music: I didn’t care for it.
Wardrobe: Jason looked very Paso Doble-ish and Edyta looked very unclothed-ish.
Performance: I thought it was a good performance. There was some interesting choreography, not as much posing as last time, but I loved the ending pose.
Judges: Bruno said he looked like a true matador. Carrie Ann said nice execution. Len said he attacked it and that he was going up like the price of gas.
Judges Scores: 9 + 9 + 9 = 27
My Score: 9
Marissa and Tony
Dance: Rumba
Music: Didn’t care for it.
Wardrobe: Didn’t care for her dress either.
Performance: It seemed to have a lot of stops and starts and not enough flow - felt choppy. And I just didn’t buy into it at all.
Judges: Carrie Ann said she wasn’t excited by the dance. Len said she did a very very good job. Bruno said she went for it and she sold it well.
Judges Scores: 8 + 9 + 9 = 26
My Score: 7
Cristian and Cheryl
Dance: Samba
Music: Great music
Wardrobe: Adorable dress and loved the blue
Performance: Well this went much much better than his first Samba (which is the week he hurt his arm). It was fun and joyful and really what I think a Samba should be.
Judges: Len said it was hotter than a chili pepper. Bruno said it was the rematch of the century (Cristian vs. the Samba). Carrie Ann said it was fantastic and that he brought it to life.
Judges Scores: 10 + 9 + 10 = 29
My Score: 9
Kristi and Mark
Dance: Jive
Music: Horrible. The tempo of the song made the dance feel a bit like it was slogging through the mud.
Wardrobe: Cute
Performance: The music was so awful that it brought down the dance a bit because the dance was too slow and it was a hard song to choreograph a jive to. The performance for what they were given, though, was very good. It just suffered because those people do not know how to pick decent music. UGH!
Judges: Bruno said it was a sweet sweet delicious jive and that she can do it all. Carrie Ann said it was an extremely difficult routine and that they were a hair out of sync but still fantastic. Len said they moved well across the floor and it had a lovely balance to it.
Judges Scores: 9 + 9 + 10 = 28
My Score: 9
Judges ranking:
1. Kristi and Mark (29 + 28 = 57)
2. Cristian and Cheryl (27 + 29 = 56)
3. Jason and Edyta (28 + 27 = 55)
4. Marissa and Tony (26 + 26 = 52)
My ranking:
1. Kristi and Mark (10 + 9 = 19)
2. Cristian and Cheryl (9 + 9 = 18)
3. Jason and Edyta (9 + 9 = 18)
4. Marissa and Tony (8 + 7 = 15)
