Celebrity Duets Debut

First of all, the host (Wayne Brady) might have to go. He was both annoying and forgettable.

The judges?

Marie Osmond (token nice person) gave great critiques and advice.
Little Richard (token kook) was amusing, but was I the only one who didn’t understand half of what he said?
David Foster (token tough guy) didn’t seem all that tough most of the time to me.

Now, on to the show:

Lucy Lawless (Xena Warrior Princess!)
first duet with Michael Bolton singing “Time Love and Tenderness”: She’s not a bad singer at all, but you can tell it’s not something she does for a living. I didn’t really see any chemistry going on at all, but it wasn’t bad.

second duet with Smokey Robinson singing “Ooh Baby Baby”: Hot duet. Smokey is not a legend for nothing. The man still has it. And this was quite lovely. And rather sexy!

Lea Thompson (Back to the Future)
first duet with Randy Travis singing “Forever and Ever Amen”: They were cute together and I loved that Lea actually did some harmony and most of her harmony was spot on, but the end of the song was slightly painful. It wasn’t horrible, but don’t give up your day job Lea.

second duet with Michael Bolton singing “That’s Life”: This genre was much better suited to Lea’s voice, and she’s very good at interacting with her partner, but I’d rather see her act than sing to be honest.

Alfonso Ribeiro (Fresh Prince of Bel Air)
first duet with Michelle Williams (Destiny’s Child) singing “I Knew You Were Waiting for Me”: Alfonso is actually a very good singer and I think he actually outsang his partner in my opinion. I did feel a nice connection between them, though. Very enjoyable.

second duet with James Ingram singing “Yah Mo Be There”: I really enjoy watching Alfonso perform. This was a great song for him. He and James had amazing chemistry and this was awesome.

Carly Patterson (Olympic gold medal winning gymnast)
first duet with James Ingram singing “Somewhere Out There”: She was very nervous and it was obvious. She sounded very amateurish compared to Lucy and Alfonso, but she does have a nice voice. She just needs to keep working on it.

second duet with Lee Ann Womack singing “I Hope You Dance”: One of my very favorite songs - also a much better genre for her voice, but as before, she was nervous and you could tell. She really does have a pretty voice, but she needs some more training and practice.

Cheech Marin (Cheech & Chong)
first duet with Peter Frampton singing “Baby I Love Your Way”: First of all, Peter! Dude! What happened to your hair???? As for the singing. It was pleasant. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great. It was okay.

second duet with Randy Travis singing “Diggin’ Up Bones”: You’d think that country and Cheech Marin wouldn’t go together, but the song kind of worked for him. Cheech is not a great singer by any stretch of the imagination, but he is a performer and I think he was having fun although, as Marie said, he needs to smile more.

Jai Rodriguez (Queer Eye for the Straight Guy)
first duet with Gladys Knight singing “Since I Fell for You”: I actually believed he was a singer. He did a great job interacting with his partner. He sounded great. There was chemistry. Awesome.

second duet with Michelle Williams singing “Say My Name”: Gladys Knight said Jai was born to do this and you know what? She just might be right. He outperformed and outsung everyone else on both of his songs. He’s the only I truly believed was a singer and had real chemistry with both of his partners. To me, he’s the one to beat.

Chris Jericho (WWF)
first duet with Lee Ann Womack singing “Mendocino County Line”: They did have chemistry. I’ll give them that. But I wouldn’t really call Chris a singer. Um yeah.

second duet with Peter Frampton singing “Signed Sealed Delivered”: Much better energy this song and a better genre for him. It was fun to watch - not the best performance, but fun to watch.

Hal Sparks (Queer As Folk)
first duet with Smokey Robinson singing “Tracks of My Tears”: Surprisingly, Hal is not a bad singer and he held his own with the SmokeMan.

second duet with Gladys Knight singing “I Heard It Through the Grapevine”: Not bad. Not bad. But Gladys makes everyone sound good because she is the WOMAN. Hal has chops, but his voice is a little square (or as Marie Osmond said too “white”). He needs to soul it up a bit.

Tonight the judges eliminated: Chris Jericho

Not a big surprise there.

How did I like the show? Well, I’m not sold on it yet. I’ll give it at least one more chance and then we’ll go from there.

I didn’t know anything about this show, but I am surprised that Wayne Brady was a bad host. I loved him on “Whose Line is it Anyway”!
I do think worst host ever award goes to the bozo from Treasure Hunters though! ewww!

I’ve only ever seen Whose Line a couple of times, but hopefully he will get better as it goes along. Hopefully the SHOW will get better as it goes along. As for the Treasure Hunters guy, could he have been more wooden and actually been wooden?

I’m so afraid to watch this show! I’m looking forward to Lost, Medium, Ghost Whisperer, and the Biggest Loser. Being the couch potato I am there are a couple of others but I’ll leave the list at those 4 for now!

I’m definitely looking forward to Lost. I can’t wait to see what happens next! And Grey’s Anatomy is another one I’m chomping at the bit for. Medium won’t be back until midseason I think. Grrr!

I wasn’t sold at all. Watched the first singer and my dad opted to change the channel. As for Wayne, he wasn’t at his top form Which is sad because like Marlene said I love him on Whose Line.

I can’t believe your dad changed the channel on Xena. Wasn’t he afraid she might whomp him? ;)
