American Idol Week 7 - Does That Inspire You?

The calls you make will not only save Idols, they will save lives. This. Is Idol Gives Back.

This week the Idols sing songs that inspire.

Chris Richardson
Change the World (Eric Clapton)

This was pleasant. There was nothing about it that blew me away. But it was probably my favorite Chris performance. It wasn’t as nasally as usual. In other words, I didn’t hate it.

Melinda Doolittle
There Will Come a Day (Faith Hill)

I love this song. It’s one of my very favorite Faith Hill songs. And I love Melinda and I think she did a spectacular job on it, but I still like Faith’s version a bit better. This was a tiny bit too slow for me and it didn’t have the power that Faith’s version had. But, that being said, it was a beautiful performance.

Blake Lewis
Imagine (John Lennon)

The low part of this song seemed to be in a very dark tone of voice, but the high part got a bit brighter and balanced it out. I kind of wanted him to go somewhere with the song, but it’s a simple song and if you do too much with it, you ruin the message I think. Not my favorite performance from Blake, but I hope he sticks around another week. I agree with Simon, though, that he really did sing it from the heart - with sincerity.

LaKisha Jones
I Believe (Fantasia)

I’m not sure exactly what key she was singing in at the beginning, but it wasn’t really the same key the instruments were in. They should make a rule. Don’t try and sing former Idol’s songs. Because if you do, you almost always crash and burn when you’re compared to them. All I could think of the whole time was how Fantasia sings it and it just didn’t work for me. LaKisha is really disappointing me, and honestly I think it’s her song choice more than anything else. She blew us away the first week and she hasn’t come near that since. At least in my opinion.

Phil Stacey
The Change (Garth Brooks)

Smart boy - sticking with the country for another week! He’s doing that dark tonal thing with his voice that makes it get lost in the mix again. Stop it Phil! Phil has so much potential, but I just couldn’t love this. It was okay, though. It made me miss Garth. I miss you Garth! Come back!

Jordin Sparks
You’ll Never Walk Alone

I can barely type through the tears in my eyes. And that says it all. You could tell that she felt that song deep within her. Amazing.

My ranking:

1. Jordin
2. Melinda
3. Chris (I know, I can’t believe it either)
4. Blake (because I love him)
5. Phil (because I love the song)
6. LaKisha (because it’s the only place left)
