American Idol - Idol Gives Back

Idol Gives Back

They received 70 million votes last night. Oh, and they got the most shocking result in Idol history. I’ll tell you what I think the shocking part is when you click…

I’ve been reading speculation all over the net the past few days that no one goes home tonight and that there will be a double elimination next week. Makes sense, because sending someone home would sort of kill the whole “feel good” aspect of the night wouldn’t it? And of course, they couldn’t have said anything last night, since they were trying to get as many votes as possible to make money. So, if it’s true I’ll forgive them since it’s for charity. And no one going home is pretty shocking I’d say, since it’s never happened before. Even when the voting got screwed up.

The first performers are Earth Wind and Fire. Good to see them.

Then the Idols sing some cheesy Quincy Jones thing. It is interesting to hear them sing an original song, though.

Some of Hollywood’s finest plug the phone numbers for the telethon. Because that’s what it is really. Nothing wrong with that, though!

And Simon and Randy are even wearing jackets. Wow.

Melinda is…safe!

Il Divo. Drool.

Jack Black. He’s nuts.

Blake is…safe!

Carrie Underwood visits some cute little kids and sings “I’ll Stand By You”.

Rascal Flatts is on the stage!

And I hope Paula does not have a wardrobe malfunction in that top. Yikes!

A Ford music video - Crazy Little Thing Called Love.

And a crazy lipsynching version of Stayin’ Alive by your favorite Hollywood stars.

Phil is…safe!

Josh Groban singing You Raise Me Up with a children’s choir. And that made me cry. Beautiful glowing faces with missing teeth and precious smiles.

I love Ellen DeGeneres.

Kelly Clarkson with Jeff Beck. The girl can sing.

The Simpsons judge Simon. Now that. That was funny.

LaKisha is…safe!

Celine Dion sings with…Elvis????

That’s pretty amazing. It’s kind of freaking me out, though. I wanna know how they did that.

They’ve raised almost $30 million at this point.

Annie Lennox! Or should I say, the “amazing” Annie Lennox?

Chris is…safe!
Jordin is…safe!

So no one goes home, but I think they just about gave poor Jordin heart failure. Damn them. Poor kid. That was mean. To her credit, she handled it very very well.

I will admit something here. I went and looked up the spoilers because I couldn’t stand it. So I knew she was safe. But had I not known, I would have been a basket case and probably cried, too. Jerks.

And then they make them sing Bono’s song after that emotional roller coaster. It sounds very U2-ish.

If you set your dvr to tape for 2 hours, you’ll miss this. But it will be on iTunes by tomorrow, so download it. It’s worth it.
