American Idol - Girl Power!

The guys sort of stepped it up, but I’m not going to be really impressed with them unless the girls fall on their faces, and I do not think that’s gonna happen!

Gina Glocksen
Alone (Heart)
This is one of my favorite songs. She better not ruin it. Well, now that’s the way to start off the night. I was a little worried at the beginning, but I am not upset by that rendition.

Alaina Alexander
I’m Not Ready to Make Nice (Dixie Chicks)
For one thing, her hands were annoying me, for another, this song ate her up. Not such a good choice and not too impressed. Very pitchy and not a lot of power to her voice.

Lakisha Jones
Midnight Train to Georgia (Gladys Knight)
This was still very good, but I didn’t love it as much as I loved her last week. That being said, I still think she’s one of the top contenders.

Melinda Doolittle
My Funny Valentine (Frank Sinatra)
One of my favorite songs and a lovely lovely rendition. This really showed off both her range and her control as well as her power. I think this was a great choice of song for her. My favorite performance of the night so far and one of my favorite performances ever. Absolutely memorable.

Antonella Barba
Because You Loved Me
Still very pitchy. And this song just was too big for her. She needs to go. And not because of questionable pictures released to the internet. She needs to go because listening to her is painful.

Jordin Sparks
Reflection (Christina Aguilera)
How cute is she? Makin’ me cry in her interview piece. The girl has some kind of range. And power. And she is adorable and sweet and I love her!! You go Jordin!

Stephanie Edwards
Dangerously in Love (Beyonce)
First of all, I can’t stand Beyonce or any of her songs, so that was a strike against her for me. And I really did not enjoy this at all. It sounded choppy and just not very good.

Leslie Hunt
Feeling Good (Nina Simone)
This was better than last week. She’s not up to the caliber of Lakisha, Jordin and Melinda, and I’m not sure she’s going to stand out enough. But I do like her voice.

Haley Scarnato
The Queen of the Night (Whitney Houston)
Nice to hear an upbeat song, but even with an upbeat song, I don’t think she really stood out amongst some really amazing performances.

Sabrina Sloan
All the Man I Need (Whitney Houston)
She certainly has the pipes to do this song and she did it well, but I didn’t hear anything original in her performance. She just sounded like she was copying Whitney to me. And so although vocally it was good - it kind of left me cold, to be honest.

My favorites tonight were Melinda and Jordin by far. And Alaina and especially Antonella need to go bye bye.
