*A phrase used by our old flute player, which I think is often apropos. ;)
Phil Stacey
Missing You (John Waite)
Love this song and his voice is fine, but I don’t really think his voice was a good match for this song. I think this song needs a grittier voice. So for me it was just, as Randy says, a’ight.
Jared Cotter
Let’s Get it On (Marvin Gaye)
This was a tough song to take on, I think - very rangy and it’s Marvin Gaye for crying out loud. But, I think he did okay. It did not blow me away, but it was okay - a little pitchy here and there, but not bad.
A.J. Tabaldo
Feelin’ Good (Pussycat Dolls)
You know, I really liked this. It almost gave me goosebumps. It was smooth. And he really took a chance singing the Pussycat Dolls!
Sanjaya Malakar
Steppin’ Out with My Baby (Tony Bennett)
I really liked his arrangement and I think he really tried to sell it, but he just doesn’t have the experience and stage presence to pull it off like he needs to. He doesn’t have a lot of power in his voice and this wasn’t a blow me away performance, but he has a really nice voice and I think he’ll be around for a little while longer. Not so sure on this after watching the rest of the guys. He may have sung himself out of the show. We shall see.
Chris Sligh
Trouble (Ray Lamontagne)
I really want to like Chris, but this song just put me to sleep. He performed it well, but it was pretty boring until the end.
Nick Pedro
Fever (Peggy Lee)
Not bad. Not great. But entertaining enough - until the pitchiness at the end. The guys just don’t have the star quality the girls do this season.
Blake Lewis
Virtual Insanity (Jamiroquai)
I really like Blake a LOT, and while I didn’t love the song, I LOVED Blake’s performance. He’s my favorite guy by a long shot.
Brandon Rogers
Time After Time (Cyndi Lauper)
An okay performance, but it didn’t really highlight or show off his vocals in my opinion. Just kind of blah. Most of the guys have chosen pretty blah songs tonight other than Blake.
Chris Richardson
Geek in the Pink (Jason Mraz)
Finally, a fun song. I didn’t love him last week, but the rest of the guys (other than Blake and A.J.) have been so boring, that I really enjoyed this. It was fun and at least it didn’t put me to sleep.
Sundance Head
Mustang Sally (Wilson Pickett)
Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about. One of the best performances of the night and certainly his best performance since the original audtion. THAT is the kind of song he needs to sing.
My favorites were Sundance, Blake and Chris R.
Who is going home? Ugh. Who knows? There are several guys who are pretty much interchangeable in my opinion, and I don’t know if they’ve set themselves apart enough to stick around.
