The girls are up tonight. Hopefully they’re 1) better than last week and 2) better than most of the boys.
Carly Smithson
Crazy On You
Heart is a good artist for her to cover since she has the pure voice that Ann Wilson does, although Ann has a little more edge and power. But she certainly has the range and I think this was a good performance and a good song choice. She started off the competition with a bang tonight. And I love me some Heart!
Syesha Mercado
Me and Mr(s). Jones
It sounded pitchy to me - like she wasn’t quite in tune with the accompaniment. And it was pretty boring - she seemed very tentative. Not a really good week for her.
Brooke White
You’re So Vain
She plays piano AND guitar. Wow! Love this girl! I really love her voice. It has such a unique quality to it. And I think this was a good song choice for her voice, and I’m excited that she used the guitar.
Ramiele Malubay
Don’t Leave Me This Way
She is cute, but her hair is starting to drive me crazy - in her face and lopsided. She’s cute, though. I do love this song, and I think for the most part, she did a great job. I feel like her vocals are getting a little lost in the mix, but that’s not totally her fault. Then again, you can only turn a person up so much. I sound grumpy, but I did mostly like this performance. It was good, but forgettable.
Kristy Lee Cook
You’re No Good
She’s pretty and she has a nice voice, but she’s just kind of bland and boring. Not a lot of personality. She’s trying, but just no sparkle. Decent performance though.
Amanda Overmyer
Carry On My Wayward Son
Very very pitchy and I don’t think this was a really good song choice for her at all. It sounded karaoke to me as Simon likes to say. And her hair was freaking me out a bit. The whole thing was pretty awful.
Alaina Whitaker
Hopelessly Devoted to You
On the surface, you’d think this was a good song for her, but she was pitchy on the quiet parts and just kind of boring. The big part of the song was a little better, but not nearly as good as last week. Very forgettable.
Alexandrea Lushington
If You Leave Me Now
The sound man on girls’ night must be different than the one on boys’ night because the boys’ always seem to have a much better mix. I really enjoyed her last week, but this was not as good. It was tender and gentle, but ultimately forgettable. And her outfit was horrible.
Kady Malloy
Magic Man
It would help if her mic was turned up. Get a new sound man already! It’s hard to judge when you can’t really hear the vocal, but what I could hear sounded pitchy to me. I liked the performance better than last week, though - a little more personality, but still not all that great.
Asia’h Epperson
All By Myself
I still really don’t like her voice. I don’t really get why everyone raves over it. It just doesn’t do anything for me at all. I also thought this was pitchy and all over the place. The last note was nice, though. It was just okay for me.
My ranking for the night:
1. Brooke White (she gets the edge just because she’s from Arizona)
1.5 Carly Smithson
3. Ramiele Malubay
4. Kristy Lee Cook
5. Alexandrea Lushington
6. Syesha Mercado
7. Asia’h Epperson
8. Kady Malloy
9. Alaina Whitaker
10. Amanda Overmyer
Who’s going home this week? I think Kady Malloy is in big trouble and I think Amanda Overmyer could be based on her performance tonight, but she might get a lot of votes based on her uniqueness. Other than that, I think it could be pretty much anyone other than Brooke and Carly. We shall see tomorrow.
I just think the girls were awful with the exception of Carly and Brook. They were awesome. And I’m sorry but Kady needs to go home for butchering one of my all time favorite songs. Ugh! And Amanda??? What happened to her?? I love her so and she was so bad I had to fast forward through the judges’ comments because I felt so badly for her.
