The boys are up again tonight and they are tackling the decade of the 70s. (Does this mean the 80s is next week? That would rock!)
Michael Johns
Go Your Own Way
I hate to say it, but this sounded a bit pitchy to me, like it was a little bit too high of a key for him. I hate to say it, because I love him and he’s my favorite. It lacked some of the charisma that he showed last week, but I still enjoy watching him perform!
Jason Castro
I Just Want to Be Your Everything
Jason is sweet and charming and is definitely one of my favorites. This was not the best song choice for him, but I still love that he’s playing the guitar. I think instruments are a great addition to the show this season. All that being said, this wasn’t as strong of a performance of last week, but it wasn’t horrible, and I think he’ll still be around next week.
Luke Menard
Killer Queen
I actually like Luke’s voice. I don’t think he’ll win, but I do like his voice. However. His voice is not suited to singing Queen. At. All. Very bad song choice. Bad. Didn’t work. He is cute, though.
Robbie Carrico
Hot Blooded
I do like his voice. However, he doesn’t have a rock voice. There is no edge to it. It’s too smooth, like the difference between a glass of nicely aged brandy and a shot of Jack Daniels. Or maybe not. I’ve never had either one of those, but you get the idea. He’s not a rocker no matter how much he wants us to believe it. What he is, is a good singer.
Danny Noriega
Superstar
Mr. Phoebe Cates was pitchy tonight. Very pitchy and all over the place. That being said, I didn’t dislike it as much as I did last week, but I still didn’t like it that much. Not impressed. And also not one of my favorite 70s songs to be honest.
David Hernandez
Papa Was a Rolling Stone
He puts a little too much affectation in his singing for me to totally love him, but I think this was the most interesting vocal of the night so far. There was some grit and some excitement to it. And he is our hometown boy after all!
Jason Yeager
Long Train Running
I love this song and he did an okay job on it. I think his voice is a little too dark, though. It seems to get lost in the mix more than the other guys. At least it was a much more interesting performance than last week.
Chikezie
I Believe
His interview made him a little more likable than his performance did last week. And his performance was a lot better than last week as well. I actually enjoyed it. And it didn’t feel like he was channelling Carlton Banks this time. A good song choice for him.
David Cook
All Right Now
He’s got the electric guitar going on this week, which I love. He definitely has the rock edge to his voice and this performance was a lot of fun and a ton better than last week. My favorite of the night so far.
Edited to add: He did make a faux pas when Simon was critiquing him by mentioning that Simon wasn’t the one who really mattered, rather it was the voters, and Simon took umbrage to that. I didn’t really think it was as much of a big deal as Simon seemed to, but he does need to watch his step. Some of these people seem to have a great big chip on their shoulders about the judges’ criticism, and they need to get over it. People who take the criticism and learn from it are going to go a lot farther in the competition and in life.
David Archleta
Imagine
There is no denying he’s a really good singer and this is probably the best performance of the night. However, I didn’t really care for the arrangement at all. It’s a simple song with a powerful message and it doesn’t need to be fluffed up. But a good performance. Although I’m not as much on his bandwagon as the rest of the world seems to be. There’s something that bugs me about his voice, and so I prefer other voices to his.
He’s the third David of the night, by the way. (How did I miss that there were 3 Davids and 2 Jasons last week?)
My ranking for this week:
1. David Archuleta
2. David Cook
3. David Hernandez
4. Robbie Carrico
5. Chikezie
6. Michael Johns
7. Jason Castro
8. Danny Noriega
9. Luke Menard
10. Jason Yeager
I think Jason is going home and unfortunately I think Luke is going with him. But you never know.
Jason Yeager should have gone home alst week. ewww. And I freaking can’t stand Danny. Not to mention HE butchered one of my all time favorite songs. And you and I may have to break up since you don’t like Superstar. so there!lol!
