American Idol 7 Week 1 - Ladies Night

Can the girls do better than the boys? Well, they’ve been battling the flu bug, so that remains to be seen, but here we go…

Kristy Lee Cook
Rescue Me

She’s a little pitchy and she’s doing really annoying things with her eyes. Overall, it was okay, but not all that memorable.

Joanne Borgella
I Say a Little Prayer for You

A little pitchy on the low notes, but I really like her voice. I think it was a good song choice for her and I think she is going to do well in this competition, although I don’t think this performance was all that memorable.

Alaina Whitaker
More Today than Yesterday

She’s kind of reminiscent of Carrie Underwood in both looks and vocals. The vocals on this song were very good - the beginning was a little pitchy, but again I’m not sure that it was memorable. The best so far tonight, though.

Amanda Overmyer
Baby, Please Don’t Go

She is definitely unique. The mix was not all that great because her lower register was too far back in the mix and you couldn’t really hear it. I do like her because she is interesting, but I’m worried that she might become a one-trick pony. And I don’t think the song did enough to show off her vocals. It was definitely memorable, though!

Amy Davis
Where the Boys Are

She started off very pitchy. And stayed that way. And could she possibly have picked a more boring song to sing than this? Maybe Moon River. Not impressed.

Brooke White
Happy Together

The hometown boy sang yesterday, and the hometown girl sings now. Love her voice, and she has a very charming personality and stage presence, so I really enjoyed her performance and I really hope she sticks around for a long time. She had a lot of fun and it was obvious, but none of the girls have blown me away yet tonight.

(Sidenote: An Arizonan won last year and there are two Arizonans in the top 24 this year. Isn’t it about time we got Idol auditions here?)

Alexandrea Lushington
Spinning Wheel

Her shoulders are driving me crazy. Other than that, this was the most memorable performance of the night so far.

Kady Malloy
Groovy Kind of Love

Um, I didn’t know this song was a dirge. She made it sound like a dirge. I really didn’t get it. It was pitchy and boring. Not impressed.

Asia’h Epperson
Piece of My Heart

Well, huh. I really did not get this at all. It was pitchy and all over the place and it’s such an iconic song that it’s hard to really mess around with it too much. I didn’t like it. I’m sure some people will, but I didn’t.

Ramiele Malubay
You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me

I think she did a decent job, but I feel like the song was almost too big for her or something. It just never seemed to take off. It seemed too quiet. But she has a pretty voice.

Syesha Mercado
Tobacco Road

I think she is a really good singer, but this was kind of a boring arrangement of the song. The power note at the end was money, but the rest of the song didn’t excite me that much.

Carly Smithson
The Shadow of Your Smile

I’ve been waiting all night for someone to really blow me away like some of the guys did last night and unfortunately that didn’t really happen. However, Carly came the closest. That was an amazing vocal. Really beautiful voice. That song should have been boring and old and dated, but it was gorgeous. Maybe she did blow me away after all.

My rankings for the night:

1. Carly Smithson
2. Syesha Mercado
3. Alaina Whitaker
4. Brooke White
5. Alexandrea Lushington
6. Joanne Borgella
7. Ramiele Malubay
8. Amanda Overmyer
9. Asia’H Epperson
10. Kristy Lee Cook
11. Kady Malloy
12. Amy Davis

Overall, the girls were more consistent than the boys. But, the boys had more memorable performances. So, we’ll see how it all plays out tomorrow night. I think Kristy, Kady and Amy are in big trouble, but you just never know.

I love Carly, but I have since her audition. She’s awesome!

My #1 and #12 are the same as yours, just some slight differences in the middle!
