Daily Reflection: 4th Sunday of Lent
Posted by Karin on March 2nd, 2008 filed in LentToday’s 2nd reading (Ephesians 5:8-14) is full of hope:
Brothers and sisters:
You were once darkness,
but now you are light in the Lord.
Live as children of light,
for light produces every kind of goodness
and righteousness and truth.
Try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.
Take no part in the fruitless works of darkness;
rather expose them, for it is shameful even to mention
the things done by them in secret;
but everything exposed by the light becomes visible,
for everything that becomes visible is light.
Therefore, it says:“Awake, O sleeper,
and arise from the dead,
and Christ will give you light.”
This reading talks about the light of the Lord and how we should live as “children of light”. I really love that imagery. It becomes clearer and clearer all the time why so many of Paul’s letters were included in the text of the Bible. He was an amazing writer.
Christ will give you light. Again I turn to the King James version of the Bible. Psalm 119:105 says “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Those of you who know me, know that I love Amy Grant, and “Thy Word” is one of my favorite songs. It seems to go very well with this reading…
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for being a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. Help us to live each day as children of light that we might be good, righteous and truthful. Continue to give us light during this Lenten season, O Lord, and always, that we might be shining examples of your love.
In the name of Jesus the Christ,
Amen
Question for reflection: How does Christ give you light?
