Daily Reflection: 19th Day of Lent

Posted by Karin on February 27th, 2008 filed in Lent

It’s another song day. Today’s song is BarlowGirl’s “Never Alone”…

Here are the lyrics:

I waited for you today
But You didn’t show
No.No.No.
I needed You today
So where did you go?
You told me to call
you said You’d be there
And though I haven’t seen You
Are You still there?

I cried out with no reply and
I can’t feel You by my side
So I’ll hold tight to what I know
You’re here and I’m never alone.

And though I can not see You
and I can’t explain why.
Such a deep, reassurance
You’ve placed in my life oh
We cannot separate
‘Cause You’re part of me
and though You’re invisible
I’ll trust the unseen

I cried out with no reply
And I can’t feel You by my side
So I’ll hold tight to what I know
You’re here and I’m never alone

We cannot separate
You’re part of me
and though You’re invisible
I’ll trust the unseen

I cried out with no reply
and I can’t feel You by my side
So I’ll hold tight to what I know
You’re here and I’m never alone

I think there are so many times in our lives when we don’t “feel” that God is there. But that’s because of our own shortcomings, not because he isn’t there. I love what they say here: I’ll hold tight to what I know, you’re here and I’m never alone…we cannot separate ’cause you’re part of me and though you’re invisible I’ll trust the unseen.

It’s so very hard for us to “trust the unseen”, but that is what faith is all about. Hebrews 11:1 says Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. We can’t physically see God, but we can often sense his presence if we try and if we trust in him, he will certainly be there when we need him.

Dear Heavenly Father,
Help us to to trust in you, even though we cannot see you. You are truly part of us and nothing can separate us from your love. We know that we are never truly alone because you are always with us, even in the depths of despair. All we have to do is call you.
In the name of Jesus the Christ,
Amen

Question for reflection: Do you ever have a hard time believing that God is there even though you cannot see him?

Sometimes. When I’m at those points in life when I think it can’t get much worse. But He always finds a way to reassure me that He has not abandoned me and that all will work out somehow.
