Day 89: Blue Potato Bush

Blue Potato Bush Blossom

We spent the morning outside - Mike planting some bushes (including this one) and me working on a photo documentation project of all of our desert plants. I took at least one full shot and one macro (sometimes more) of each different species of desert plant that we have on our property (or pretty nearly all of them). It took me about 2 1/2 hours and over 300 shots. Now I’m researching all the names of the plants - the cactus are especially hard to track down because there are soooo many varieties of cacti out there. I’ll be adding them to my flickr stream at some point after I get all the research done and of course after the cactus bloom so I can photograph the blossoms as well.

This is called a “Blue Potato Bush”. I’m not really sure where it got its name, especially when the blossom is clearly purple. When Mike told LG the name of the plant, she scoffed as well. “That’s not blue, it’s purple!” Can’t out-logic a three year old. ;)

OK, so it’s purple. But where’s the potato?

There’s not much that surpasses the beauty of water droplets on a flower. Lovely shot.
