Day 12: Windows to My World
Today Mike and I went to the Home Show here in our fair city. It’s several miles away from our house, so we don’t get to that part of town very often anymore. However, the venue for the Home Show is just a couple of miles away from Phoenix College, which is where Mike and I met 20 years ago this month. (And boy does it make me feel old to realize I was in college 20 years ago. *sigh*) Just a side note - Mike and I actually went to the same high school, he a year ahead of me. We sort of knew who the other was, but we did not really formally meet until we were in college together.
So, 20 years ago, I was sitting in the lobby of the Music Building, just inside these glass doors…
…well to be totally accurate, I was crashed on one of the benches in the lobby of the music building trying to take a nap or something, when Mike walked up and sat down on the floor next to me and struck up a conversation. I could say the rest is history, but that’s not entirely true. We dated for a few weeks or so and for whatever reason - mostly my being interested in several other guys I guess (hey, I was only 21) - we stopped dating. But a few months later, we started dating again. And then the rest was history.
The photo you see at the top of the post is the new administration building on the campus. We hadn’t seen it before, nor had we known of its existence, so it was an interesting discovery. We also discovered that they are building a new Fine Arts Centre and after a bit of online sleuthing, I found out that they are going to be remodeling the Music Building as well. I have mixed feelings about that. I’m glad the campus is getting a facelift, but there’s a lot of memories in that building, and I’d like to be able to take LG there someday and show here where her mom and dad met.
