About Me

My name is Karin and I’m a forty-something stay-at-home mom and former elementary school teacher living in Phoenix, Arizona in the beautiful Sonoran Desert. I’ve been married to Mike (a musician/handyman) for 17 years. We have one beautiful 3 year old daughter, referred to here as “Little Girl”. And we have one 2 year old mutt named Melody.

Before my daughter came along, I had never touched more than an instant camera because all those buttons and settings scared me to death. I had been told a few times that I had a “good eye” for composing photos, but I really didn’t know what that meant back then.

We got a fancy schmancy digital camera (Canon Powershot Pro1) while I was pregnant and it may well be one of the best things that ever happened to me. After my daughter was born, I was inspired to learn how to use the camera to document her life when Mike wasn’t around to do it. And from there, I started venturing outdoors to take photos of my surroundings. Mike, who had taken some photography courses in college (someday I’ll have to scan some of his old photos and post them because there are some really cool ones), gave me some constructive criticism and taught me the basics of using a camera that was a bit more advanced than my point and shoot ones, and I went from there. Mike, even though he still loves photography, is my biggest fan and I love him for it.

I try to take pictures of everything I can, but I think my best shots are my nature macros and my Little Girl photos. My dream is to someday travel back to the places I’ve been, domestic and foreign, and take pictures thinking more like a photographer than a tourist.

This blog has been a blessing to me. I love to share my photos, but even more I love the community that has developed through Project 365. Your kind and thoughtful comments are inspirational and appreciated, and I enjoy taking this yearly journey with all of you!
