365 Days #164 - Liberty Belle

The Liberty Belle

This B-17G flew over our house a few times this afternoon. I did a little sleuthing and found out she is the Liberty Belle based out of Atlanta, Georgia and is visiting a municipal airport about 4 miles away from our house for the weekend. According to Aero Vintage Books, there are only 12 operational B-17s left in the world. So actually getting to see her fly over our house was a pretty cool (and rare) thing. She will be making flights tomorrow as well, so I hope to see her again!

Hi there, found you via Eric Cheng’s journal via Vienna Teng. Anyway, my Dad piloted B-17s in WWII. One tours to Livermore CA near where Ilive every Memorial Day (+/-). It belongs to the Collings Foundation that restores WWII and later aircraft for public viewng. In 2001, my daughter and I took a short flight in it. See the images at the web link (above). It was very cool to at least be able to fly a short while in the same kind of plane my Dad flew over Germany so long ago.
