I haven’t posted a photo of Melody in quite awhile. That’s mostly because she never stands still long enough for me to focus the camera on her. But today she took a little break under the picnic table and posed very nicely for me.

I love this plant. I love how when the flowers get big enough and heavy enough, they sort of fall down to the ground. I love the happiness of the bright yellow color. I just love it!

I couldn’t get close enough to her to get a good shot (this is on full digital zoom which makes it much more grainy), but isn’t she pretty?
I did some digging on whatbird.com, and while we have most definitely had Cardinals in our yard (see this photo) – pure red male bird and mousy brown female, this is not a Cardinal. It’s called a Pyrrhuloxia – something I’d never heard of before! They say that the more appropriate name for it is Desert Cardinal. Go figure!
