Day 244: Green Acres
Posted in Project 365+1 2008 on August 31st, 2008 by KarinThis picture was taken by our friend Ryan on his iPhone and technically it was taken after midnight, but since I was still out and about, I’m counting it for August 31.
The guitar player’s name is Joe, and Mike (on keyboards) and he have been playing music together in some manner for over 20 years. Mike actually met Joe several days before he met me, which means Mike and I have been together 20 years now. (Where did the time go?) Back in the heydey of their band I was out watching them pretty much every weekend. Oh the days of being 20something and dating. Anyway, back in the day, they used to do the Green Acres theme song at the end of the night - just to be goofy. (Clicking on that link will get you a sound file, so don’t click if you don’t want sound.) When the guy who did the Eva Gabor part left the band, somehow I got roped into doing it whenever I was there. The things we do for love, I tell ya!
So last night, Mike and Joe were doing a gig along with a drummer and bass player, and all my “friends” that I went out with kept asking for “Green Acres”. Wasn’t that nice of them? Don’t worry. I’ll get them back one day! Do you know how many years it’s been since I’ve sung onstage in a bar? Many, many, many. 10? 15? Longer? I don’t know, but a long time. Of course, Joe loved the idea and they made me get up and do it. And yes it was fun. And yes, I actually remembered the lyrics. And yes, I totally felt silly, but I guess sometimes you need to relive your youth right? This photo is of Mike on keys, Joe on guitar and me as Eva Gabor.
Hope you all have a great Labor Day!
Taken on August 31ish, 2008.
And I’m post-dating this because I’m a little OCD about the whole calendar thing.
