Day 244: Green Acres

Posted in Project 365+1 2008 on August 31st, 2008 by Karin

Green Acres

This picture was taken by our friend Ryan on his iPhone and technically it was taken after midnight, but since I was still out and about, I’m counting it for August 31.

The guitar player’s name is Joe, and Mike (on keyboards) and he have been playing music together in some manner for over 20 years. Mike actually met Joe several days before he met me, which means Mike and I have been together 20 years now. (Where did the time go?) Back in the heydey of their band I was out watching them pretty much every weekend. Oh the days of being 20something and dating. Anyway, back in the day, they used to do the Green Acres theme song at the end of the night - just to be goofy. (Clicking on that link will get you a sound file, so don’t click if you don’t want sound.) When the guy who did the Eva Gabor part left the band, somehow I got roped into doing it whenever I was there. The things we do for love, I tell ya!

So last night, Mike and Joe were doing a gig along with a drummer and bass player, and all my “friends” that I went out with kept asking for “Green Acres”. Wasn’t that nice of them? Don’t worry. I’ll get them back one day! Do you know how many years it’s been since I’ve sung onstage in a bar? Many, many, many. 10? 15? Longer? I don’t know, but a long time. Of course, Joe loved the idea and they made me get up and do it. And yes it was fun. And yes, I actually remembered the lyrics. And yes, I totally felt silly, but I guess sometimes you need to relive your youth right? This photo is of Mike on keys, Joe on guitar and me as Eva Gabor.

Hope you all have a great Labor Day!

And I’m post-dating this because I’m a little OCD about the whole calendar thing.

Day 243: Silly Still Life

Sorta Silly Still Life

My last attempt at a still life includes my sun hat, some silk flowers and one of LG’s toy geckos.

Day 242: Still Alive

Still Alive

All my attempts at “still life” haven’t been that satisfying. I’ll keep trying, though.

Day 241: A Is for Awesome

A Is for Awesome

LG has decided she wants to learn how to write. This is her first attempt at writing a letter besides “M” which she writes all the time and which I had to document. Not bad, eh?

Day 240: Time to Get the Donuts

Time to Get the Donuts!

It’s a long story, but basically, I had a craving for my favorite doughnut a couple of months ago, went to Dunkin’ to get it, and they were closed for remodeling. They finally reopened a little over a week ago, but due to long lines, I didn’t get my doughnut right away. But, as you can see, I finally did!

Day 239: Preparing

New Desk Area

I’m greatly lacking in inspiration these days. It’s hot and humid and I just don’t feel like wandering around outside taking photos - the dog days of summer I guess. So today, you get a picture of the desk area Mike will be building for my new computer that I’ll be getting soon since my laptop is maxed out and I need to take some of the load off of it - on top of the fact that I just need a little more room and a little more speed to do the things I want to do. Maybe that will help my creativity. ;) LG decided she was going to be in the picture, but of course she wouldn’t be still.

Project 365 Topic #35: Still Life

Posted in Project 365+1 2008 on August 24th, 2008 by Karin

According to Wikipedia, a still life is “a work of art depicting inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which may be either natural or man-made in an artificial setting”. Clear as mud? Well, hopefully, it’s clearer than that since it’s the topic for this week!

By the way, now that the Olympics are finally over and I’m not totally consumed with them anymore, I’ll be able to get back to posting on my normal daily schedule, as well as visiting your blogs and getting my Linky Love post up to cover the past two weeks!

Day 236: Special Treat

Cupcakes with Pink Frosting

Mike left to go up north for a gig on Friday afternoon and didn’t get back until the wee hours of Sunday morning. Since LG and I were on our own, we watched the Olympics all day and made cupcakes with homemade buttercream frosting. She chose the color. I piped it.
