National Library Week started yesterday, so in honor of that noble institution, this week’s topic is Literary: books, reading, libraries, bookstores, etc.
When Mike was designing our house (he drew the plans himself), one of the things I wanted was a lot of windows because both the house I grew up in and our first house (which coincidentally was the house he grew up in) didn’t have that many windows. He obliged and it’s one of the things I love most about the house - the abundance of windows and natural light. However, when we moved in, the house was nowhere near finished. It was livable, but we hadn’t painted or put flooring in or even installed kitchen cabinets. For curtains, we have been using old sheets - not necessarily pretty, but an inexpensive temporary solution. We’ve slowly, but surely, been getting things done as time goes on and yesterday we made kitchen curtains. We didn’t get the ones for the French doors done yet, but so far, I like how they look!

Mike and I spent the day making curtains for the kitchen. (He measured and cut - I sewed - we’re a good team!). But not before LG got to try out the watercolor set she got for Easter.

The cacti are starting to blossom and the bees are taking advantage of it. There were a bunch of them buzzing around this cactus as I was trying to take this photo.
And since Mike’s pictures have been featured the last couple of days, I thought I’d give you another one of his as well. This is LG doing something you’d have never seen me doing when I was her age. Ew!

I was still stick, so Mike again took over the camera for me on this day and captured some of the many many critters that hang around our property. This is a Tiger Whiptail and just the fact that he managed to get a photo is amazing because they 1) don’t stay still very long and 2) are very fast.
This picture of a Yellow-Throated Warbler was taken through the window of our bedroom. It’s not a bird I’ve seen around here before. I’m sure he (or she) will be off to cooler climates soon enough!

By the way, if you are wondering how to identify birds, go to whatbird.com and I’m telling you, it will change your life. ;)
I wasn’t feeling well at all yesterday, so I didn’t take any photos, but I did manage to ask Mike to take some for me last night. So this is LG eating her dinner of Ramen and posing for Dad while Mom was in bed feeling miserable. Feeling a little better today so far. Hopefully it will stay that way.

I couldn’t resist this photo of a ladybug hanging out on the ocotillo.
But I also took a photo to fit the metallic theme for this week, so you get a Twofer Tuesday today…
